Job Description

We are currently accepting applications for seasoned Laborers wanting to advance their construction careers. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of commercial construction and remodeling practices as well as a comprehensive understanding of procedures, techniques, tools, equipment, materials, specifications, quality and cost control measures and safety requirements associated with commercial building.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • General and final cleanup
  • Distribution / cleanup of power hand-tools / extension cords / generators
  • Dewatering activities / set-up water pumps and hoses
  • Manual moving of formwork, lumber, resteel and material / accessories
  • Hand excavation and backfill
  • Hand grade sub-base
  • Place vapor barrier / board insulation
  • Place and tie rebar & steel
  • Placing concrete from a truck, pump, bucket, buggy, conveyor, etc.
  • Rake concrete / screed concrete / edge concrete / broom finish concrete
  • Vibrate concrete
  • Place concrete blankets
  • Strip/ wreck, clean and oiling of formwork
  • General / selective demolition of masonry, drywall, plaster, partitions of all types, ceilings of all types, finishes of all types
  • Use of demolition tools: jack hammer, air tools, sledge hammer, etc.
  • Use of cutoff saw
  • Use a cutting torch
  • Other tasks as directed by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in all phases of commercial construction
  • Candidates must have transportation Good communication skills
  • Be willing to work within a 70 mile radius of Clarksville Tennessee
  • Be able to work in a variety of seasonal and weather conditions

Job Description

  • Responsible for organizing and completing finish and interiors carpentry related tasks at building construction projects.
  • Reports to: Superintendent

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Possess the skills necessary to complete rough carpentry work as well as finish and interior carpentry work including but not limited to millwork, casework, and installation of decorative panels, doors, frames, hardware and miscellaneous equipment and specialties items.
  • Reviews jobsite needs with the superintendents & foreman and coordinates construction
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts, backhoe, skid-steer, excavator, compactors, and construction hoist
  • Assist with the overall site safety and quality programs as required and ensuring Trade employees/subcontractors compliance with Hughes Construction standards and all applicable safety codes, regulations, and jobsite security
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers and other employees.
  • Ability to travel and accommodate night and weekend work as needed
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Display a high level of teamwork, integrity, commitment, and leadership in daily operations.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of carpentry experience with at least two (2) years of interior finish experience
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures, foundations and framing.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, basic geometry, and their applications to carpentry.
  • Knowledge of basic building layout and leveling.
  • Ability to accurately measure lengths with ruler or tape.
  • Ability to interpret project drawings
  • Must be able to comprehend safety instructions and signage, communicate effectively in emergency situations and understand written safety instructions from tool and equipment manufacturers.
  • Valid driver’s license

The Superintendent position at Hughes Construction Corporation operates in the role of a working supervisor who coordinates and directs the field employees. They also interact with and coordinate subcontractors while striving to meet the client's requirements and expectations while maintaining production goals and quality that Hughes Construction Corporation is known for in the industry. The Superintendent reports to the assigned Project Manager and indirectly to the Operations Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: Some technical school training in construction. Extensive practical experience may be substituted for this requirement.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and be insurable.

  • Due to the nature of our work some projects are located on United States Military Installations so all employees are subject to Government background checks. Also, at times work will occur in classified areas which will require a Government Security Clearance.

EXPERIENCE

  • Required: 3-5 years of commercial or industrial construction.
  • Preferred: Some supervisory experience.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Must speak English well enough to take instructions from supervisor and communicate with fellow employees and customers.
  • Must understand basic mathematics to calculate percentages and ratios.
  • Must be familiar with construction terminology and basic principles.
  • Ability to think conceptually and understand system requirements, and to interpret drawings and blueprints.
  • Must be able to read and write English and understand daily reports, road signs, instructions, routes, and other paperwork.
  • Must be able to manage all personnel, equipment, supplies, and technical needs.

PHYSICAL

  • Must be physically capable of loading and unloading vehicles.
  • Must be able to operate tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Must be to able stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and move heavy tools.
  • Must have correctable eyesight, depth perception and not be colorblind.
  • Must be in sound physical condition and able to perform a physically demanding job.

ATTENDANCE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be willing to work within a 70 mile radius of Clarksville, Tennessee
  • The work is primarily scheduled and performed at the customer’s location hence attendance and timeliness is extremely important. Some time will be spent in a controlled temperature office doing reports and managing schedules.
  • May require long hours and may include evening and weekend work during the busy season.
  • There could be exposure to dust, chemical fumes, smoke, and medium to loud noise levels.
  • Will be required to drive company vehicles in hazardous weather conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Direct the activities of employees reporting to this position to include making work assignments and making the most effective use of their time and talents.
  • Prepare and implement duty lists for employees.
  • Audit and review work done by employees for quality/completeness.
  • Maintain daily and weekly time reports for reporting employees.
  • Ensure the efficiency of the methods used in the installation process.
  • Inspect company equipment for safety problems; coordinate the necessary repair work with the Operations Manager.
  • Ensure employees track and record labor hours and job numbers on daily time sheets; review and approve time-sheets.
  • Supervise the use and control of parts, supplies, and equipment.
  • Monitor work practices to ensure compliance with safety policies.

AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • Evaluate, discipline and recommend termination action on reporting employees. However, all termination action must be reviewed and have prior approval of the President and or the Operations Manager / General Superintendent.
  • The quality, quantity, and completeness of all work performed for the customer.
  • The timely completion of all work in order to meet customer requirements.
  • Enforcing company policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring safety policies are adhered to.
  • Minimization of waste and rework; ensuring that good housekeeping is practiced.
  • Ensuring the necessary supplies and equipment are available.
  • Ensuring that employees are productive and that overtime is kept to a minimum.
  • Completing and returning all paperwork and reports.
  • The security of company tooling, equipment, supplies, and personnel assigned to him. Returning tooling, equipment and unused supplies to designated storage areas.
  • Ensuring that employees do not abuse break/lunchtimes.

 

DUTIES AND TASKS

  • Direct/train/control employees on correct methods and procedures for installation on assigned jobs.
  • Review/supervise the work of team members to ensure it is done well and completely.
  • Assist in retraining employees as necessary to ensure proper completion of the work.
  • Enforce company policies. Direct or counsel team members as necessary.
  • Monitor the use of materials, tools and supplies; ensure the accurate reporting of materials usage.
  • Complete and return all paperwork and reports daily.
  • Review and approve employee time-sheets for reporting employees' hours of work.
  • Notify the Project Manager of the progress/status/problems with materials or daily workload.
  • Keep employees in areas assigned.
  • Keep employees working.
  • Report all accidents promptly per company policy.
  • Complete annual evaluations of employees.
  • Ensure the cleanliness, neatness and orderliness of all equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure that employees have, are properly instructed in, and use necessary protective and safety equipment.
  • Ensure that all sanitation devices are properly positioned and maintained.
  • Dispose of all waste products in accordance with Federal, State and Local laws, rules and ordinances.
  • Daily inspection of work-site to ensure safe work practices.
  • All other duties deemed necessary by the Operations Manager.
